CiBiX Challenge: Fostering partnerships for scaling Nature-based solutions to enhance rainwater capture and management

4 November – Hamburg (Germany)

Storm surges and urban flooding is a major climate risk for the city of Hamburg. Hence, effective rainwater capture and management are incorporated into the city’s Climate Plan. Nature-based solutions (NBS) play a crucial role in enhancing such climate adaptation measures.

Hamburg has already launched several NBS initiatives, such as incentive and funding programs to spur private investment. However, the majority of NBS is still concentrated in public spaces and buildings. NBS integration across the city will need to expand in order to provide the adequate ecosystem services needed to support Hamburg’s dense urban structure and growing population.

To tackle this, current CiBiX workshop aims to connect the city of Hamburg and its partners with the private sector to explore NBS market growth opportunities and identify viable business models. Bringing diverse stakeholders together to jointly explore barriers and opportunities related to NBS investment will gather new insights as well as help to identify potential partnerships.
